One of the questions we most frequently get asked in store is; "What phone do you use?". The logic behind this question is fairly sound - considering we work all day everyday with phones and get to test much of the latest technology that is going around, we have a pretty good idea of what's what. So what does everyone in store use?
Well, there is no one phone that everyone agrees is the best. Just like our customers, we all have different wants and needs from our handsets and all have preferences for different brands, types, operating systems, and form factors (designs). So, lets have a look at what everyone uses;
Tao Chen - Store Manager;
Tao is a bit old school at this stage. While he is constantly asserting that the latest and greatest phone is going to be his in a matter of moments, this rarely seems to happen. As such, he is currently using the Nokia E71. This is a GREAT little handset - excellent size, very reliable, user friendly and built very solidly. The full QWERTY keyboard makes for super fast typing, and although the keys seem very small we find that most people can get used to them in no time. It is no longer available on plans (you could look at its big brother, the E72) but is still kicking around on prepaid at $299, or you can get its slightly more basic baby brother for $179.
William Wang - Business Specialist;
Will just recently ungraded to the super-powerful Nokia N900. He is a bit of a 'status' man and loves to have the flashiest thing going around. The N900 is nice and large, shiny and rather heavy - Will's dream. It running Nokia's very own Maemo operating system; because Maemo is based on Linux (the computer OS), it makes the handset super powerful and highly customizable. It also has a full QWERTY keyboard, touch screen, and a 5MP snapper. The N900 is a great competitor to the revered iPhone as it has as much processing power, and great operating system that is fast and efficient, and an excellent app store to rival Apple's offering. It is valuable handset at the top of the Nokia line.
Campbell Phillips - Team Leader;
Campbell goes through handsets like most people go through cartons of milk. Being a complete handset nerd, he has had countless phones over the past few months trying to find that perfect phone. He thinks he finally may have found it in the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. The Xperia has a very large 4.0" touchscreen which exhibits excellent detail - many web pages can be easily read without zooming in at all! It is running Google's Android operating system which is turning in a mature and well thought out smartphone operating system. The other big plus is it has the second biggest app store out there, and unlike Apple's app store, there are no restrictions on the apps which can be uploaded by developers. This may seem rather irrelevant to most people, but just come in on a Saturday or Sunday to speak to Campbell and he'll prove otherwise.
Stay tuned for more staff's handset of choice and for our very own homegrown reviews on our favorite handsets!
